Great British Bake Off returned last night where 12 budding bakers battled it out in the infamous tent.
As always, the show started off with cake week with the contestants tasked with taking on the classic Battenberg cake, with the technical challenge based on the humble fruit sponge.
Sadly for one contestant, it was their first and last outing.
So, who had to hang up their apron on GBBO last night?
*Spoilers ahead, obviously*
Who left GBBO last night?
Last night, we bid farewell to 27-year-old diagnostic radiographer, Loriea Campbell-Clare.
Loriea previously admitted she ‘rarely follows a recipe exactly’ which may well have been her downfall last night when she failed to woo the judges with her bubblegum flavoured Battenberg and pineapple upside-down cake.
She opted to create a cake bust of poet Louise Bennett-Coverley, ‘Miss Lou’, for the technical challenge but it sadly wasn’t enough to keep her place in the competition.
After co-host Noel Fielding sent her home, Loriea said: ‘I was happy with what I baked and I wouldn’t have changed anything, everything happens for a reason. ‘A bittersweet moment was that I wouldn’t have been able to go to my grandmother’s funeral if I had still been in the tent.
‘So the timing was right that I left the tent when I did, as it meant I could be with my family and give a farewell to my grandmother.’
She wasn’t the only one who faced disaster last night, though, after tense scenes saw contestant Sura accidentally whack four of Dave’s upside-down cakes on the floor, as she attempted to swat away a fly.
Four of Dave’s cakes were written off after the mishap but the judges complimented the two which were salvaged so all was not lost.
When is the Great British Bake Off next on?
Great British Bake Off returns next week at the same time – Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
As always, you can catch up on the show after it airs on All 4.
