Millie Bobby Brown became so used to acting with an American accent as Eleven in Stranger Things, she’s had to learn to speak like a Brit again.
The 16-year-old is about to star as Enola Holmes, the lesser-known little sister of Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective Sherlock, in the upcoming blockbuster film from Netflix.
But the voice of Eleven has become so engrained into the actress, it’s been a lot trying to talk with an English accent again.
‘For the last five years I’ve been playing an American character in Stranger Things and I found it really challenging being British in this, even though I am a Brit,’ she told Radio Times.
‘I had to learn how to speak again because I’m so used to speaking in an American accent.’
Millie, whose family moved to Florida, US, when she was eight-years-old, has starred as Eleven since 2016, becoming one of the most sought-after stars on the planet when she was just 13.
The trippy sci-fi epic was midway through filming its fourth season before the coronavirus struck, with production now delayed indefinitely.
Season three left fans questioning if Jim Hopper (David Harbour), Eleven’s father, survived the finale, only to have their answer in the first season 4 teaser.
While the teen isn’t going to be giving away any spoilers, she did recently lay out her hopes for her heroine.
‘Oh my god, she’s been through so much, I just hope she’s happy,’ she told Glamour UK.
‘I always say to the [Duffer brothers, the creators of the show], “Can she just not smile like in one take?” I would love her story to be rounded off by like a good ending.
‘I trust the Duffer brothers so much that it’s going to be beautiful and I’m going to love it no matter what it is.
‘But I’d love for her to get her powers back because she is a hero, she is like a super woman in a way.
‘And she loves Mike – I want them to get married. That’s what I need. I need a wedding scene for Stranger Things, period. ‘Eleven in a wedding dress and her going,
‘Sorry, my nose is bleeding. It’s a white dress.’ Doesn’t it just seem like it would fit?’’
Stranger Things seasons one to three are available on Netflix now. Enola Holmes comes to the streaming service on September 23.
