Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) has long suspected that there was more to Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) in EastEnders than meets the eye, but will he finally discover the truth after the abuser kills Chantelle (Jessica Plummer)?
The storyline in question is set to have something of a tragic end in a special episode (September 18).
In episodes leading up to this one, however, Chantelle sets in motion her escape plan — which comes in the form of a last-minute family holiday. Or at least that’s what she tells Gray it is in an effort to cover her tracks.
She’s pleased when she successfully convinces her abusive husband that it’s nothing more than a little trip away with her family, but when he sweet-talks Karen (Lorraine Stanley) and Mitch into allowing Mia and Mackenzie to remain in Walford, she’s horrified.
She sets off on her trip — having accepted that she can no longer leave without her kids — and Mitch picks up on her sadness, as he quizzes her in a cafe.
Chantelle successfully hides her pain once more, revealing that she’s just missing her children.
In an effort to put a smile on her face, Mitch sets off back to Walford to retrieve Mia and Mackenzie, and Chantelle is delighted when he arrives back with the children in tow — that is until she realises that Gray has also come along.
His presence makes her uneasy, and — as the Talyors relax in front of a movie — he suggests that he, Chantelle and the kids return to Walford.
Chantelle has little choice but to agree, but as she sets off, Mitch notices a flicker of fear in her expression.
Back in Walford, a brave Chantelle informs Gray that she’s leaving him once and for all, but she has no idea what’s set to unfold, as the tale reaches a tragic conclusion.
It has been confirmed that Chantelle will die in tragic scenes, as Gray murders her.
However, with Mitch’s interest having been piqued in regards to Chantelle being afraid, could he perhaps discover that Gray has done?
If so, will he seek revenge?
Will Gray pay for what he’s done?
