Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) makes quite the return in EastEnders tonight (September 21), and she’s hellbent on finding out what’s been going on between Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton).
Martin and Ruby embarked on a romance during the soap’s hiatus, and with lockdown having seen the pair move in together, things have been getting really serious.
Meanwhile, Stacey was last seen when Martin paid her a visit and told her he didn’t want her any more — a lie he’d concocted in order to keep her away from Walford and the dangers that lurked there.
Speaking about what Stacey has been up to over the past year, actress Lacey Turner said: ‘She’s been through a break-up with Jerome, and since then she’s been living the life. And then lockdown hit and she decided to stay put until lockdown had ended and decided that it was time to come home.
‘And of course, Kat told her about Ruby and Martin, Kat came to visit her before lockdown and they’d been keeping in touch, and she’s been keeping her across all the gossip. She told her what has been happening with Ruby & Martin.’
Stacey makes a huge return to Walford tonight, in the wake of learning about Martin and Ruby’s romance. But what does the character make of this new pairing?
Lacey said: ‘I think for Stacey she just felt angry towards Ruby – that’s supposed to be her best friend. And she’s really sad about her and Martin. In her heart of hearts she does still love him, I think it’s quite hard her to watch them together. But in true Stacey style, she will just put on a front and pretend she doesn’t care.
‘She thinks that it’s not that serious, he’s there for the money. She definitely doesn’t think it’s going to last forever. It’s a bit of a joke to her.
‘And she would take Martin back tomorrow if he said he wanted to come back. I think she’s still very much in love with him. Which is so sad. Poor Stacey!’
Ruby and Stacey have been best friends for years, but the former’s relationship with Martin could spoil their close bond.
Speaking about whether Stacey could ever forgive Ruby, Lacey said: ‘Ooh I don’t know, this is a pretty bad one. That’s like the number one rule for being best friends. You don’t take your best friends husband! So I don’t know.
‘It’s very sour at the moment and it looks like it’s going to stay sour for quite a long time. It’s become quite bitter and I can’t really see a way out.’
‘She’s back and she’s not really taking any rubbish at the moment. She’s living her life, she’s looking after her kids, she’s there for her family and she’s trying to back the best of a bad situation with Ruby and Martin and just tackle it the best that she can. She’s a feisty one!
‘She’s back and she’s back with a bit of fire in her.’
