The Walking Dead star Steven Ogg has revealed bosses scrapped a Negan and Simon showdown.

In 2016, Steven joined the cast in season six’s Last Day on Earth as Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) right hand man.

However, as the show played out, the duo who ran The Saviours slowly turned against each other, seeing Negan ultimate strangle his friend to death.

And while there were many great scenes between the pair, it turns out a particular one suggested by Steven himself was cut by the showrunners.

When chatting on the Talk Dead To Me podcast, the 46-year-old said: ‘I thought I’m gonna face [Negan]. I’m gonna kneel, I’m gonna turn around, and I’m gonna put my arms behind my back, and I’m just going to stare at him.’

Recalling how the script would go, he pressed: ‘”Bash my head in, kill me, but you’re gonna look me in the eyes. Let’s do this.”‘

But, things didn’t go as he planned, as the actor explained: ‘I made that choice, and then… they were like, “Interesting choice, Steven, but you’re not doing that. You’re not gonna be facing Negan eye-to-eye, turn around.”

‘So that’s what happens when you have a good production, you can try stuff and they can sometimes appease you. Sometimes they just say, “That’s not right.”‘

We still think it would have been kind of epic to see Simon confront the show’s villain.

Fans of the franchise are currently awaiting the season 10 finale after the coronavirus pandemic forced the episode to be delayed.

And they only have a couple of months left to wait – as showrunner Angela Kang recently revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that the next instalment will be available in October – with six additional episodes.

‘We’re excited to announce an extended season 10, there will be six extra episodes to follow the finale in early 2021, if all goes well,’ she said.

‘We’re working on those now.’

The Walking Dead season 10 finale will air October 4 in the US and the next day in the UK.
