Lady Gaga collected each of her MTV VMAs trophies while wearing a different face mask as the show took place during the pandemic.
The event went ahead on Sunday night in New York without a live audience, and performances were staged in various outdoor locations around the city.
The singer, who also performed Rain On Me with Ariana Grande, was one of the big winners of the night, taking home five awards.
As well as MTV’s first ever Tricon Award, she took home moon men for artist of the year, song of the year and best collaboration, while Rain On Me also won best cinematography.
While accepting the award for song of the year for Rain On Me, taken from her new album Chromatica, Lady Gaga described the lyrics, saying her tears were like ‘an unfathomable downpour from my eyes, but even with that much rain, you don’t have to drown, even though it feels like you are.’
She continued: ‘If there’s a strong current with a bunch of waves and they keep crashing over you, if you keep swimming, you’ll reach the centre of the ocean where it’s calm, still and peaceful.
‘Winning for best song has to be my favourite because at the end of the day, my heart is as a songwriter and I surely didn’t ask for a free ride.’
The Poker Face singer saw off competition from Doja Cat’s Say So, Roddy Ricch’s viral hit The Box, Billie Eilish’s Everything I Wanted, Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage and Circles by Post Malone.
Other big winners on the night included The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion and BTS.
