Nadiya Hussain says she wouldn’t ‘accept’ an arranged marriage for her daughter, despite being in one herself.
The TV cook married ‘wonderful’ husband Abdal in an arranged marriage when she was 20-years-old, and has spoken in the past about how well it has worked out.
But Nadiya shared that she will not ‘have time’ to find a husband for daughter Maryam, nine, when she grows up as she plans on doing her own thing.
‘I know everyone says this, but [my children] do have the best dad in the whole world. I am the sister who turns up and never slags off their husband,’ the 35-year-old told The Mirror.
‘That said, I would never accept an arranged marriage for my daughter. I don’t have the time.
‘Once they’ve left home and got on with their own lives, I want to buy a sports car and drive off!
‘I’m still questioning whether I’ll take my husband with me. Ask me in a few years!’
Nadiya and Abdal have been married for 15 years and also share sons Musa, 13, and Dawud, 12.
In the past she has revealed that she didn’t fall in love with him until they’d had their boys.
‘Love is strange… It creeps up on you and then smacks you in the face. I didn’t know my husband, and then we had two children, and then I fell in love with him,’ she told Good Housekeeping.
She added that when it comes to her children’s marriages ‘we need to move with the times’.
‘I don’t think my children need me to find them a husband or a wife. They will do a better job than I will,’ the Great British Bake Off winner said.
