EastEnders star Kellie Bright has revealed that she initially struggled to believe that Linda Carter would ever issue husband Mick (Danny Dyer) with divorce papers.
The actress — who portrays Linda on the BBC One soap — spoke about the iconic moment in scenes which viewers can see for themselves in Monday night’s edition of Secrets From The Square.
She told Stacey Dooley: ‘When the producer said, “You’re going to end up serving Mick divorce papers”, I was like, “Oh no, no, no, no, no, no!
‘”No, no, no. Don’t believe it. Don’t buy it. Don’t believe it. Why would Linda ever serve divorce papers to Mick? No, no, no, no, no!”
‘I just wouldn’t have it!
‘And then, of course, the sprial of the alcoholism really took hold, so by the time we actually got to this, I was like “Oh. Now I get it.”
We’re with Kellie on this one! The idea of Mick and Linda even considering a divorce seems somewhat out of character for the pair, but the series of events which led up to the scene in question made it a completely believable narrative.
Viewers will remember that Linda served Mick with divorce papers earlier this year — à la Den and Angie — at the bottom of the Queen Vic stairs in a moment which paid tribute to the original landlord and landlady’s most remembered moment.
Of course, the boat crash ensued just days later, and with Linda having finally been able to admit that she’s an alcoholic, the landlady realised that she wanted nothing more than to reunite with her beloved hubby.
Mick and Linda sold up and moved out of the Vic, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for them, as they come out of lockdown when the soap returns in September.
