Eat Out to Help Out, the government-backed scheme to get people back in restaurants following months of coronavirus lockdown and closures, has been operating since Monday 3 August.

You don’t need a voucher to take part in the scheme, as the discount will automatically be applied when you eat in at any venue taking part, which includes many favourite franchises like McDonalds, Nando’s and Pizza Hut.

The scheme does have some restrictions, however, so with the bank holiday approaching, what do you need to know if you wanted to head out for the day?

Can you use the Eat Out to Help Out discount on Bank Holiday Monday?

Yes, the scheme is only valid Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays – and this is understood to include Bank Holiday Monday on 31 August.

The initiative states that from August 3 to 31, each diner can get a 50% discount when they eat in at restaurants that are registered with the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.

You can use the government’s website to find out which restaurants are taking part near you.

What can you get on the Eat Out to Help Out discount?

Each customer can get up £10 off their bill when eating in at a participating restaurant.

The up to £10 per diner discount applies across the whole menu, but cannot be used on alcoholic drinks or towards any service charge.

Discounts are only applicable when you dine in, however, so you can’t get any discounts on drive-thru orders or takeaways.
