Another 816 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, bringing the overall figure – as of Monday – to 311,641.
It means the number of cases has fallen below 1,000 a day again after infections rose to their highest level since June 26 yesterday.
The new figures come as it emerged the UK’s coronavirus daily death toll could be scrapped after health officials were accused of ‘exaggerating’ the tally.
Meanwhile, the Greek government has imposed a late-night curfew on bars and restaurants in popular holiday destinations, following a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases.
Establishments will be forced to close from midnight until 7am, with the curfew affecting the well-known tourist islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Zakynthos and Kos, spokeswoman Aristotelia Peloni said in a televised address.
