Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) has avoided justice thus far in Coronation Street, but could he finally be set to pay for his sins as he’s arrested for Elaine Jones’ (Paula Wilcox) murder?
Geoff thought he’d managed to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes in regards to Yasmeen’s (Shelley King) attack, but the holes in his narrative have slowly started to appear.
Sally (Sally Dynevor), for one, knew full well there was more to the story than meets the eye, and her investigating ultimately proved just that, as she managed to get the truth out of Yasmeen herself.
Alya (Sair Khan) — who also had her suspicions about her gran’s hubby — has been incredible grateful to Sally for all that she’s done thus far, while Geoff has seethed at the pair’s alliance.
However, in spite of Sally and Alya’s determination to get to the truth, it could be Elaine that ultimately takes the abuser down — albeit from beyond the grave!
Geoff was horrified to discover that his first wife had shown up on the cobbles.
Elaine’s presence threatened to not only expose all of his lies, but also threatened to ruin his relationship with son Tim (Joe Duttine) — given that Elaine’s his real mum — which is why he became determined to get rid of her.
He seemingly succeeded in doing just that, as — after confronting Elaine in the ginnel — she subsequently vanished.
Sally and Alya reported Elaine’s disappearance to the police — namely DS Abney (Fiona Skinner), who’s been conducting the investigation — and her interest was piqued when the pair suggested that Geoff was involved.
Of course, Geoff denied any such involvement in Elaine’s vanishing, and even claimed that no such altercation took place.
However, in spite of Geoff’s confidence in his plan, one can’t help but wonder if getting rid of Elaine could prove to be instrumental in his downfall?
With Elaine having been deemed a missing person, the police will no doubt continue to investigate, and it’ll likely only be a matter of time before they discover that Geoff’s ex-wife didn’t die in the 70s like he claimed.
What’s more, granddaughter Faye (Ellie Leach) and Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) witnessed Geoff’s altercation with Elaine outside the Rovers — an altercation which Geoff told the police never happened.
These factors could prove to be instrumental in his downfall, as if the police perhaps discover that he lied about this meeting, they’ll no doubt be given reason to investigate him.
Given Geoff has already had plenty of dark secrets unearthed, such a thing would no doubt lead to more skeletons being discovered.
The question is: is Elaine actually dead?
If so, will he be arrested?
And, will it be this that ultimately leads to his exit?
