‘We’re here by the skin of our teeth’: Good Morning Britain suffers ‘massive’ power cut causing chaos

Good Morning Britain suffered a ‘massive’ power cut this morning which threatened the show going to air.

Presenters Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway kicked off today’s programme by telling audiences there was a last-minute scramble making sure the episode could go live.

‘We’re here by the skin of our teeth. We suffered a massive power cut at Good Morning Britain,’ Kate began. ‘It’s been all sorts of dramas.

‘They couldn’t use the printers so they couldn’t print off any briefs to brief us on the stories, they had no light…’

Kate added that because the air conditioning went off, the show’s server also shut down, meaning there was a risk the programme wouldn’t be able to connect to their guests and couldn’t be aired at all.

Not ideal.

Kate Garraway returned to the Good Morning Britain studio today for her first day back amid husband Derek Draper's coronavirus battle. And the presenter admitted 'a lot had gone wrong' already as she opened the show with Ben Shephard.

Luckily, the team managed to get things up and running on time. And so far, so good.

‘Genuinely, we were touch and go,’ Ben continued. ‘Just a big shout out to the team that got us on. To Daniel, because it really was touch and go.’

‘We hope we can get through until 9am!’ joked Kate. ‘There is a bit of gaffer tape over everything … Chaos at Good Morning Britain this morning.’

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that future power cuts are kept at bay.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
