Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan has split from her husband while six months pregnant.

Just days ago, the 28-year-old actress announced that she is pregnant with her first baby, a boy, with husband of six months Michael Kopech.

However, the Chicago White Sox pitcher has now filed for divorce from Morgan.

Kopech, 24, filed for divorce on 19 June in his home state of Texas, with no hearing date set.

The news comes after the White Sox announced that Kopech had decided not to play this season due to ‘personal reasons’.

A rep for Kopech confirmed to People that he is the father of Morgan’s baby.

Vanessa – who plays Toni Topaz on the teen drama Riverdale – delighted fans last week when she announced that she was expecting her first baby.

The star posted videos and pictures from her gender reveal party, wearing a sash reading ‘Mommy’ and throwing blue powder in the air.

She wrote in an emotional caption: ‘Exciting news… I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January 💙. This little guy has already brought me so much happiness and a feeling of such a greater purpose. I cannot wait to meet you!!

On a personal note, I have had the blessing of growing up in the public eye having started my acting career at age 6. While this has been incredible for me, I am very much looking forward to giving this little guy some room to grow up outside of the public eye, until he tells me otherwise 🙂.

‘Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing ☺️ I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate everyday to being the best mommy I can be.’

Kopech was not seen in any of the gender reveal pictures.

Vanessa last shared a picture of her estranged husband, who left Instagram last October, on 30 April to mark his 24th birthday.

Kopech popped the question in July 2019 after a year of dating, writing on his since deleted Instagram account: ‘I love you intensely, passionately, & also at times, recklessly. I make decisions on the spur of the moment (i mean look at how our relationship has gone up to this point).

‘I’m a very non traditional type of person and I know I’ve found my match in you when it comes to that especially. Our relationship probably doesn’t make sense to many people for a s— ton of reasons, but we’re not doing it for them. We know this is forever. Why would we wait? lol.’

They tied the knot on 4 January this year in an intimate ceremony at the Walton Historic House in Florida, with guests including Degrassi star Alicia Dea and Riverdale’s Skeet Ulrich, Drew Ray Tanner and Madelaine Petsch; Petsch, who plays Morgan’s on-screen girlfriend, acted as bridesmaid.

At the time, Morgan wrote on Instagram: ‘Thankyou for teaching me the true meaning of unconditional love. You let me be me, you let me be free. My Eternal.’

Kopech previously dated Kim Zolciak’s daughter Brielle Biermann until March 2018, with their relationship featuring on the Real Housewives spin-off Don’t Be Tardy.

Meanwhile, Morgan dated ice hockey star Nathan MacKinnon for two years until 2016.
