The Wire star Dominic West has revealed that he was once homeless in London.
The British actor is best known for his roles in the groundbreaking, critically acclaimed crime drama as well as the psychological thriller The Affair, alongside Ruth Wilson.
But now, Dominic has revealed in a candid interview that he once experienced a night of being homeless in London – and the astonishing effect it had on him.
He told Radio Times: ‘I haven’t experienced being stateless politically, but I’ve been without money – I’ve been homeless for a night in London and without money.
‘It was astonishing how quickly you become invisible, and how quickly you become reviled and how quickly you realise that all you’ve got to appeal to anyone is a common humanity.’
He continued: ‘And that’s just not having money, never mind being a refugee or escaping a regime.’
Dominic’s comments come as he’s taken a role in new drama series Stateless, which examines the experiences of several people detained in an immigration detention centre in Australia.
It’s inspired by the real-life story of Cornelia Rau, an Australian permanent resident who became unlawfully detained under the government’s mandatory detention program.
Starring alongside West in the drama are The Handmaid’s Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski, Suicide Squad actor Jai Courtenay and Cate Blanchett.
Originating from Australian channel ABC, Stateless will be released on Netflix globally.
Stateless comes to Netflix.
