Amazon Prime Video favourite The Boys has been officially given the go-ahead for season 3 – alongside a brand new bonus spin-off series.

Speaking at Comic Con At Home, showrunner Eric Kripke told fans what was in store for the smash hit show, including finally confirming that the rumoured season three renewal was in fact true.

But on top of that, the team is also bringing in a new sister series, that will kick off ahead of the season two launch on 4 September.

Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will see Friends actress Aisha Taylor going behind-the-scenes for interviews with cast and crew of the show for the inside track on how the series is made.

Making the announcement about the show’s future, Eric said: ‘Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their ‘weirdo’ demographic, has greenlit season three of The Boys.

‘The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material.

‘We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus.’

‘As if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you a season two after-show, Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Double entendre intended.’

The superhero series, created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke, was previously named Amazon’s highest rated original on IMDb and it’s since become the most viewed too.

It’s originally based on the comics of the same name, but The Boys has deviated slightly – creating its own identity as a series for future seasons.

Season two picks up with The Boys on the run from the law and being hunted by the Supes, while they’re desperately trying to regroup while being fugitives.

The Boys season 2 launches 4 September on Amazon Prime Video.
