Coronation Street spoilers: Sudden exit for Gary Windass as he flees after murder

After everything that he has been at the centre of, it seems that Coronation Street holds too much risk and too many bad memories for killer Gary Windass (Mikey North) – and he desperately packs a bag, leaving behind notes for his fiancée Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and the mothers of his children, Izzy and Nicola. Is this the end of the line.

As Gary recovers in hospital following the road accident with the van in which he saved the life of his ex Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), he begs her not to tell anyone what she knows about Rick’s death. But as Sarah is left torn when Gary issues a warning and another plea, he doesn’t know whether he has the time to hang around.

As Sarah agonises over the decision and finds herself not telling the whole truth to the police of her husband Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), Gary discharges himself from hospital and prepares to sneak away before he gets that knock at the door.

So is this his exit?

Mikey smiled and told Metro.co.uk: ‘My mortgage hopes not! I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’ve had a great couple of years, so much great fun stuff to do and great storylines. I’ve never been happier there or had more to do. I’ve always said if that did lead to some sort of exit that’s the way it is but I’m happy there and I’m there for as long as they want me.’

Luckily for Gary (and Mikey!), Sarah comes good – and Mikey reckons that there is still massively unfinished business between them.

He mused: ‘He still loves her, doesn’t he? And I think he always will. All that stuff he did with Rick and Rana and the roof stuff was all to help them out and to save her to protect her. I guess he feels hard done by that he’s had to do these things and she’s off with someone else, he doesn’t like that.

‘Don’t get me wrong, he does love Maria, she has been nice to him and kind and he does love her, he really does, and he does want to marry her. But the stuff with Sarah will always be bubbling under and this brings it all to a head.’

With a shared killer secret, will tensions rise? And where will this leave Adam and Maria?
