It’s been almost 15 months since Ronda Rousey last appeared on a WWE show – and fans are still left wondering if she’ll ever return.
The Baddest Woman On The Planet took the pro wrestling world by storm during her rookie year, making her first appearance at the Royal Rumble in 2018 before making her full debut at WrestleMania 34 that same year.
She left fans stunned with her incredible performance that night, teaming with Kurt Angle in a fantastic bout against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, and she would go on to capture the Raw Women’s Championship.
Stellar matches continued to be the theme during her exciting run, as she took on the likes of Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Bella and more before eventually losing the title in the first ever all-women’s WrestleMania main event in 2019.
There, Rousey lost to Becky Lynch in a Winner Takes All Triple Threat match – which also involved then-SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair – as The Man took home all the gold.
However, her first loss also marked the end of her tenure with WWE. Here’s what we know…
Why did Ronda Rousey leave WWE?
A year after her emphatic and exciting debut, Rousey moved on from WWE as she looked to start a family with her husband Travis Browne.
‘As for WWE plans in the future, we want to have a baby first,’ she said shortly after WrestleMania 35 last year. ‘Originally we approached [the WWE] and I thought I’d only be able to wrestle from WrestleMania til November because we already wanted to start a family.
‘We came to the WWE as like, “Hey, before we have a baby I just want to come and do this for a couple of months because it’s something I always wanted to do.”
‘And then it just kind of snowballed into instead of being like a small detour in my life, it became my whole life for an entire year and I fell in love with it.’
However, Rousey has since hit out at ‘ungrateful’ WWE fans and suggested they were a big part of her walking away when she did.
She said earlier this year: ‘What am I doing it for if I’m not being able to spend my time and energy on my family, but instead spending my time and my energy on a bunch of f**king ungrateful fans that don’t even appreciate me?’
Will Ronda Rousey return to WWE?
That’s the big question – and one thing that’s certain is it won’t be on a full-time schedule at this point.
Ronda has explained: ‘No, I’ll never be full time again — over 200 days a year on the road like that ever again.
‘I needed to do it in order to learn and get immersed into it and really understand what’s going on, but it’s just not the lifestyle for me.’
Do WWE want Ronda Rousey to return?
It would be surprising if they didn’t – and Triple H has left the door wide open, despite her scathing remarks about the WWE fanbase.
‘Of course, we want her. Of course, we do. One of the greatest performers for us ever,’ he told TMZ Sports.
‘We still have a great relationship on everything [with Ronda], and when she is ready, absolutely [we’ll have her back].’
We’ll have to watch this space.
