Ryan Giggs has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to prioritise the signing of a central striker following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Friday.

Steven Bergwijn gave Jose Mourinho’s side the lead in the first half but United rescued a point with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes after Paul Pogba was fouled by Eric Dier in Spurs’ area.

United have made Jadon Sancho one of their top targets this summer but Borussia Dortmund are demanding in excess of £100 million for the winger.

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But Giggs feels United need to sign a striker who is capable of scoring 25 goals a season.

When asked if Grealish would be a good signing for United, Giggs told Premier League productions: ‘Yeah, if a quality player like that becomes available then Man United are going to be [in for him].

‘Because he looks like a Man United player. He takes the ball, attracts loads of fouls.

‘I would say we definitely need a centre forward.

‘A centre forward who, if a team is deep, he’s going to play that centre-forward role. Be on the end of passes, be on the end of crosses, score 20, 25 goals.

‘I still think if we’re going to catch City and Liverpool we’re still three or four players short.

‘But definitely promising and exciting with Bruno and Pogba coming into the team.’

Giggs is also adamant that United have enough quality to beat Chelsea to a top-four finish in the Premier league.

‘Definitely. The squad looks healthy now, even players coming off the bench, you’ve got the likes of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard who didn’t get on. Brandon Williams has done so well. So the squad is looking strong,’ said the former United winger.

‘If they do well in the cups there’s going to be a lot of games so they are going to need the squad.

‘I’ve seen enough tonight to think if they play like that [against Spurs] then they’ve got a real chance of getting into the top four.’
