Piers Morgan has branded Celebrity Gogglebox ‘savage’ as he commented on how the programme ‘edited’ out a scene where Eamonn Holmes opened up about his father’s death.
The Good Morning Britain presenter discussed the Channel 4 series with co-host Susanna Reid – who is due to appear on it for three weeks – on today’s show and asked her about the filming process.
‘You have no control over the editing, right?’ Piers asked.
‘You see, the benefit of doing a live programme is you’re always in control of what you say and what goes out,’ replied Susanna.
‘When you do a recorded programme, it’s in the hands of the editors.’
‘And as our friend Eamonn found out, the editing can be a bit savage, the editing process as they apologised to him,’ Piers quipped.
He continued: ‘It is fun to watch. When they’ve done us it is funny to watch people who you know what they’re thinking as they’re watching you.’
Celebrity Gogglebox bosses issued an apology to Eamonn Holmes after the This Morning host accused the show of cutting a heartbreaking scene where he opened up about his father’s death.
Following the instalment earlier this month, Channel 4 bosses decided to pull the episode from its catch-up service so that they could spend time re-editing the show for future repeats.
A spokesperson for Celebrity Gogglebox told Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘We have apologised to Eamonn over what happened in this week’s episode. We understand and respect Eamonn’s feelings on such a deeply personal story.
‘We have taken the decision to edit the episode for future repeats and All 4. We look forward to working with Eamonn and Ruth for the rest of the series.’
It comes as ITV host Eamonn accused the show of ‘atrocious editing’, after him and his wife Ruth Langsford were being filmed watching an emotional scene from BBC One’s Ambulance.
The pair were moved to tears as a boy tried to resuscitate his dad, who was thought to have had a heart attack.
Although, after the boy managed to successfully resuscitate his father, Eamonn went on to tell his own story about taking Ruth to the hospital when she was in labour.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
