Eamonn Holmes has opened up about Ruth Langford’s late sister Julia Johnson and how his wife feels ‘guilt’ following her death.
Just last year, an inquest found that Julia had died by suicide aged 62 after she was found at her home in Lingfield, Surrey, where she lived with her husband Paul.
Ruth addressed the tragic news on This Morning where she told viewers how her sister had died ‘after a long illness’.
And now, her hubby Eamonn has spoken out about his sister-in-law, and how her death has left many ‘unanswered questions’.
He told the Daily Star: ‘Sudden death is a very, very difficult thing to deal with, and with Julia you know, she was just the most lovely, gentile, kind person.
‘I often used to joke to her and Ruth that I got the wrong sister, but she was a lovely, lovely person – tortured by mental depression.’
The 60-year-old added: ‘Ruth was very caring, very loving to her and I think there can often be a guilt when you think, “Should I have been there? Where was I?”‘
At the time, Ruth took a break from presenting and told her fans: ‘My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken.
‘She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.
‘As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.’
Back in 2010, Julia had spoken about her mental illness and how her sister had been supportive throughout her battle.
She said of the 60-year-old: ‘In adult life I have suffered from depression, especially when I hit my fifties. I’m learning to deal with it now, but Ruth has been really supportive.
‘I’d phone her in tears and go and stay with her. She encourages me to have more confidence in myself and when I’m trying to do too much, she has taught me to say no and look after myself a bit more.
‘She’s the best sister anyone could have.’
