David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is delighted that Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) has returned to the eponymous Coronation Street, but little does he know that her return is set to bring with it a lot more conflict.

David was chuffed when he learned that Shona wanted to pay a visit to the street, and therefore he made himself scarce. Naturally, Shona found the whole thing overwhelming, and ended up in Roy’s (David Neilson) company.

With Roy having evidently struck up quite a relationship with Shona, David asked if she could move in with him — and the cafe owner ultimately said yes.

Speaking about Shona’s decision to return to the street, actor Jack said: ‘David is pleased. When they are discharging Shona from the hospital, she doesn’t want to live with David and the Platts so David asks Roy if it’s alright that she moves in with him. It’s a big ask but at least David will know that she is close by. ‘

‘David nearly gave up when he went to the rehab centre and the nail in the coffin was when Shona said she wanted a divorce but when Shona comes back to the street it encourages him and gives him hope.’

Shona sets foot on the cobbles once more this week, as she moves in with Roy, but her return brings with it plenty of conflict for David.

Jack continued: ‘ Shona takes a shine to the new care worker, Aaron, so David is really annoyed. We had a lot of fun playing that scene so I am looking forward to it going out, it’s very funny.’

As the week progresses, Shona and David end up spending quite a bit of time in one another’s company, and a bond soon begins to form as they go out for dinner to the bistro — and their evening together brings back memories for David.

Jack said: ‘Shona and David come out of the Bistro and Shona has Ray’s wallet.David starts laughing and Shona thinks he is taking the mick out of her so she throws the wallet and storms off.

‘David catches up with her and explains they met because Shona stole David’s wallet.’

With chemistry once again developing between the two, Shona invites David up to her flat — and he’s delighted as a result. However, things take something of a turn when she suggests they have sex, and David is left shocked.

On this, Jack said: ‘Although it’s his wife and he has just got out of hospital after four or five months, David’s reaction is to say no and wait for her to be ready. He is trying to be respectful.’

What happens next has yet to be revealed, and while there’s inevitably going to be more conflict between the pair, David isn’t ready to give up on his wife, no matter what.

However, Jack suggests that — regardless of what transpires — the pair’s relationship will likely never be as it once was.

He said: ‘Ultimately I don’t think the relationship will be the same again. Shona will have to fall in love with him all over again and he is going to have to fall in love with her again.’

However, the question on everyone’s lips is whether or not we’ll see another wedding — and this is something that Jack would very much like to see for himself.

He said: ‘Yes, no one wants to get married in the Bistro and David was wearing prison clothes! I’d like to have one in a big cathedral’
