DL Hughley has tested positive for coronavirus following his collapse at a stand-up show this weekend.
The Soul Plane comedian was performing at Zanies Comedy Club in Nashville on Friday night (19 June) when he collapsed on-stage in front of the audience.
After an overnight stay in hospital, Hughley announced on Saturday that he had tested positive for Covid-19.
In an Instagram video, the comedian started off with good humour and joked: ‘You comedians who called and said such evil things, thank you too. I really appreciate it.’
Sharing the extent of his health problems, Hughley explained: ‘When I came in I was being treated for extreme exhaustion and dehydration. I was very dehydrated.

‘But they ran a battery of tests and I also tested positive for Covid-19 which blew me away. I was what they call asymptomatic.’
The 57-year-old comedian revealed: ‘I didn’t have flu-like or classic symptoms, I didn’t have shortness of breath, I didn’t have difficulty breathing, I didn’t have a cough, I didn’t have a low grade fever. I still don’t have a fever. I didn’t have a loss of smell or taste, apparently I just lost consciousness.’
‘Well thank you for your prayers and your well wishes and a few more of them wouldn’t hurt, so hopefully I won’t develop symptoms. Maybe this is as bad as it gets.’
Hughley revealed he was going back to his hotel to spend 14 days in quarantine.
The Scary Movie 3 actor received well wishes from stars such as Kevin Hart, who said: ‘Prayers up champ….Happy that your doing better 💪🏾 Get well.’
Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer said: ‘Be safe!!! Have someone get you a thermometer and a pulse oximeter. You will need to monitor your temp and blood oxygen levels daily. Praying for you!’
Think Like A Man actress Meagan Good added: ‘Continuing to pray for you my Brother 🙏🏾 So happy and praising God your ok fam.’
During his Friday night performance, the comedian began to slur his words prompting a security guard to hand him a water bottle from the side of the stage.
He continued to deliver a well-received performance for a few moments with the audience laughing away. However while perched on a stool, Hughley hunched over and passed out as a security guard rushed to his aid and carried him off-stage.
An ambulance and fire truck arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital.
A rep initially told TMZ that Hughley was ‘suffering from exhaustion after all the week’s work and travel, and was kept overnight at the hospital for tests under doctor’s orders.’
They added: ‘He is awake and feeling better, and wishes to thank everyone for the very kind prayer and thoughts.’
