Bacary Sagna has offered his services to Arsenal after Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in the first game of their Premier League restart on Wednesday evening.
David Luiz’s calamitous display saw him at fault for City’s opening goal as his failed clearance allowed Raheem Sterling to score from close range.
But it got even worse for the Brazilian defender shortly after half-time as he gave away a penalty and was sent off for a foul on Riyad Mahrez.
Kevin De Bruyne scored the penalty to double City’s lead, while Phil Foden also found the net to wrap up a 3-0 win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Sagna, who made 284 appearances for the Gunners and helped the club win the FA Cup in 2014, was clearly not a fan of his former side’s defending as he posted on Twitter during the game: ‘Well… I believe I can still play.’
The defeat has left Arsenal ninth in the Premier League, eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta admits he is keen to forget Arsenal’s latest setback
‘I want to delete the game from the hard drive,’ the Arsenal manager told BBC Sport.
‘It’s a lot of things that happened and there’s no point taking things from this game.
‘Just delete it and start preparing tomorrow for the game against Brighton.’
Asked if he could take any positives from the game, Arteta replied: ‘The very early stages because we were in the game.
‘We looked a threat and the game was balanced.
‘But when we gave the goal away before half-time, conceded the penalty and then 10 men against them is a mountain to club.
‘But the boys didn’t throw in the towel. They kept going, they kept trying, even until the last minute.’
