French “gastronomes” are “kicking up a stink” after none of the country’s “famed fromages” made it into the top 10 of the world’s best-rated cheeses, said The Telegraph. Italy was dominant in the top 10 of the 100 best world cheeses on culinary site TasteAtlas, with parmesan in the top spot, followed by burrata and grana padano. “The judges must have been Italian,” a French cheesemonger told rolling TV news channel BFMTV.
Man has a venti nightmare with Starbucks
A US man was forced to cancel a family holiday after a couple of cups of coffee at Starbucks cost him almost $5,000, reported Kansas City Star. Jesse O’Dell said he thought he had spent around $12 for the coffee but found a $4,456.27 charge from Starbucks on his bank statement. He said that when he contested the charge he was initially told by Starbucks that he had entered a $4,444.44 tip. Reimbursement cheques from Starbucks bounced when he tried to deposit them, so he turned to the Tulsa Police Department. He has now received new cheques.
Health app will ‘bribe’ people to lose weight
People are to be “bribed” to lose weight with the offer of free cinema tickets and shopping vouchers, reported The Times. Under a pilot scheme launched in Wolverhampton today, adults will be encouraged to download a health challenge app which will give them points for completing goals such as eating lots of vegetables, going for a jog or walking 10,000 steps a day. The points can be redeemed for rewards, including cinema tickets or clothes and food vouchers.
