Humans could become immortal after a breakthrough in jellyfish science, said the Daily Star. A group of scientists from a university in Spain have been studying the Immortal Jellyfish, more precisely known as the Turritopsis Dohrnii, which has the ability to switch from adult life back to larval stages at will. They have successfully identified the DNA part that allows it to age backwards, and found part of it to be similar to human DNA. The knowledge could one day be used to reverse ageing in humans, the paper claimed.
Planet ‘could sustain life’
British astronomers have discovered a rocky planet that could sustain life, reported The Times. Scientists at the University of Birmingham said the previously unknown planet is a “temperate super-Earth”, a rocky planet about 40% larger than our own. “The discovery of this remarkable system offers another rare opportunity to study temperate terrestrial planets around our smallest and coolest [stellar] neighbours,” said the team.
Road turns pink in South Carolina
A stretch of highway in South Carolina was temporarily turned pink when clothing dye spilt from the back of a truck involved in an accident, reported UPI. "Will be a while before a contractor cleans it up, and traffic is backed up,” said the emergency services in a Facebook post about the incident between Highway 129 and Highway 29. “While the colours are pretty, we’re pretty sure you don’t want it on your car!”
