Billy Connolly is arguably the best talk-show guest of all time.
His relaxed manner and phenomenal mental Rolodex of jokes and funny anecdotes have always made him a gift to interviewers, and this appearance on the Late Late Show with Gay Byrne is a prime example.
He shared one of his favourite jokes, originally told by fellow Scot, Hector Nicol, about a railway signalman.

About three quarters of the joke’s success lies in Billy’s flawless delivery, and that’s one of the things that came up in tweeters’ reactions.
He could read the phone book and make it sound funny.

Pator10 thought Gay Byrne was worried about what Billy might say next.
Good auld Gaybo was shiting himself there

As well he might.
