A US judge has sentenced an author who once wrote an essay entitled How To Murder Your Husband to life in prison for murdering her husband. Nancy Crampton Brophy, 71, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a jury who agreed that she shot her husband of 26 years in 2018 for a $1.5m (£1.2m) life insurance pay-out. The BBC noted that her published works include novels such as The Wrong Husband and The Wrong Lover.
New ‘dominant dialect’ within century
Multicultural London English, best known for terms such as “peng” and “wagwan”, could become Britain’s dominant dialect within 100 years, academics have said. The dialect, which emerged among the children of immigrants in the UK’s capital, includes vocabulary like “ends” (neighbourhood) and “bare” (very/a lot), along with the use of “man” instead of “I” and “you” or “he”. Matt Gardner, a linguistics lecturer at the University of Oxford, told The Telegraph that “language always changes”
Aliens already superseded by robots
A leading astronomer has claimed that any “flesh and blood” aliens that evolved in space will have already been taken over by highly intelligent robots, reported The Times. Martin Rees of Ludlow, 79, told the Cheltenham Science Festival that humans would probably be “superseded” by the artificially intelligent robots we create within the next millennium and that the same happened on planets inhabited by the “remote electronic progeny of some long-dead civilisation”.
