Andy Warhol’s silkscreen portrait of Marilyn Monroe has sold for $195m at auction – a new record for a work by an American artist. Shot Sage Blue Marilyn, which is one of pop art’s best-known pieces, was sold by Christie’s at an auction in New York, reported Sky News. The work is “the absolute pinnacle of American pop”, said Alex Rotter, the chairman of 20th and 21st century art at Christie’s.
Couple live full-time on cruise ships
A couple decided to live full-time aboard cruise ships after deciding that it made more “financial sense” than paying off a mortgage. Richard and Angelyn Burk told 7Life that they “really enjoy cruising and being able to visit different parts of the world without hopping on an airplane”. The Burks calculated that they could live the rest of their lives hopping from cruise ship to cruise ship for as little as $62 each a day. “We don’t plan to permanently live on land in the future,” they said.
Farmer has tallest papaya tree
A farmer in Brazil was awarded a Guinness World Record when a papaya tree on his property was officially measured at 47 feet and 8.83 inches tall, making it the highest in the world. Tarcisio Foltz invited a friend to measure the tree using a drone and was delighted to learn he had made history, said UPI. “It’s a very big honour for me,” Foltz said. “I am very happy and very proud to be a record holder.”
