A woman who wrote an essay entitled How to Murder Your Husband has been found guilty of murdering her husband. A jury found author Nancy Crampton-Brophy guilty of second-degree murder in the 2018 death of her husband, chef Daniel Brophy, who was gunned down at the culinary school where he taught cooking classes. CNN said Crampton-Brophy’s books were tales of “attempted murder, lust, crime and infidelity” and her husband’s killing “could have been ripped” from one of their pages.
Five-foot whisky bottle sold for £1m
The world’s largest bottle of whisky has sold for more than £1m, reported The Metro. The 311-litre bottle of Macallan single malt was bought at an auction in Scotland. The bottle is 5ft 11 inches tall and holds enough liquid to fill 444 standard bottles. An anonymous foreign buyer purchased the whisky at Edinburgh-based auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull. “It certainly isn’t every day you get to auction a bottle of high-quality, single malt, that also happens to be a record breaker,” said a spokesperson for the auctioneers.
Genetic secrets extracted from Pompeii bones
Human remains from Pompeii have revealed genetic secrets from the bones of a man and a woman who were buried when the Roman city was engulfed in volcanic ash. The two people were first discovered in 1933, slumped in the corner of a dining room, “almost as though they were having lunch when the eruption occurred”, said the BBC. The man’s skeleton contained DNA from tuberculosis-causing bacteria, suggesting he might have had the disease prior to his death.
