Chancellor Rishi Sunak isn’t exactly Flavour of the Month, with people clamouring for him to do more to alleviate the cost of living crisis that has just gone stratospheric due in part to unprecedented energy price rises.
Molten public anger over Sunak hurting not helping over the cost of living crisis has an air of Partygate 2.
This is live, ongoing agony rather than a backlash against law-breaking a year ago so may inflict greater political damage.

The billions of pounds of waste of public funds from PPE procurement, Covid payments and Sunak’s pet project – Eat Out to Help Out – simply hasn’t been addressed by anyone in power.
When you set Rishi Sunak’s personal wealth against the billions & billions of pounds lost to fraud under his Covid policies, it’s clear that he takes much more care of his own money than he does of ours. Labour should point this out at every turn of the cost of living crisis.

He was dubbed ‘callous’ after this response to news that his Spring Statement would see more than a million people in the UK enter absolute poverty.
"You've made a political choice to plunge 1.3 million people, including half-a-million children into absolute poverty."

That perception won’t have been quashed by the optics of his decision to jet off to Santa Monica, to stay in one of the 12 mansions owned by himself and his wife, Akshata Murthy, who is the subject of much controversy over her connections to an Indian company operating in Russia.
Listen. Multi millionaire chancellor Rishi Sunak has just flown his family and his daughter of a billionaire wife to his house in California for an Easter holiday whilst you little people wonder how you’re going to pay massive energy bills.
But yeah. He’s on your side.

These reactions say it all.

Sunak says: “Having trouble heating your home? Why not do what I do? Fly to California where it’s always toasty warm – you know it’s common sense.” pic.twitter.com/jDjyvLpWek

Can this be the same bloke I saw at the Sainsbury’s filling station the other day filling up that little hatchback? https://t.co/IVipR97Oqr

If Sunak's actually planning to fly to a £5m penthouse Santa Monicao apartment after the Spring Statement he's just given then his political instincts are legendarily bad.
It is an unfortunate time to be an ultra-rich chancellor. Why make it worse? https://t.co/vj50iBlZCj

Rest assured everyone…
Rishi Sunak will be closely monitoring the cost of living crisis from his umpteenth holiday home in California

If you’re going to claim that you understand people’s struggles with the cost of living crisis (despite being a multi-millionaire) it might not be sensible to jet off to California during the biggest challenge to living standards since the 1970s. Rishi Sunak seems to know better.

Rishi Sunak going on holiday to his 12th home in California, on the day a ruinous 55% hike in heating bills comes in, is as good a way as any of saying GFY to the electorate

Rishi Sunak, like many others, will not be turning on the heating in his London flat this weekend.
Because he’ll be in his California penthouse flat instead https://t.co/rAZ7yQJGJQ— alex hern (@alexhern) April 3, 2022

Cancel your Netflix account and cut back on avocados and you too will be able to afford a Santa Monica flat with a pet sauna! https://t.co/9Dq5BeRMyF

We suspect @jonloveridge83 isn’t the only person who’s wondered this.
Literally impossible to work out why he’s in politics. He doesn’t need the money. He doesn’t seem to care about improving things. And his political instincts are in the bin https://t.co/xfRqAVMHJs
