Matt Le Tissier switched from anti-vax to sharing pro-Russian conspiracy theories – 11 strong responses

Horrific images of the aftermath of the massacre committed by Russian soldiers in Bucha have been shared across the world’s media, triggering condemnation, revulsion and a fresh round of sanctions on Russia.

But as most people condemned Vladimir Putin for ordering the invasion and allowing – or possibly encouraging – war crimes, some people cried “Fake!” – including Unity News Network, a conspiracy theory platform owned by two anti-vaxxers.

The former Southampton FC and England footballer Matt Le Tissier shared and endorsed their tweet, which strongly suggested the Bucha massacre wasn’t real.

After an enormous backlash, he deleted the tweet and tried to excuse it.
