The Weakest Link: ‘Shots fired’ by Reverend Richard Coles as Karim Zeroual dubs priest ‘lairy’

Reverend Richard Coles proved he wasn’t afraid to take direct swipes against his fellow celebrities on The Weakest Link, with Karim Zeroual saying that the priest was ‘lairy’ on the show.

On tonight’s programme on BBC One, host Romesh Ranganathan welcomed Reverend Richard, Karim, Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown, Love Island star Kaz Kamwi, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne, TV presenter Esme Young, fashion designer Patrick Grant and comedian Dave Gorman to compete for a chance to win money for charity.

Patrick was the eventual winner, while Esme was the first celebrity to be voted off by her peers.

At one point in the show, Romesh questioned how Reverend Richard incorrectly guessed the name of a Coldplay album as ‘Magenta’, when the actual answer – as many people know – is Yellow.

He responded: ‘I dipped out of music after the 80s because it got a bit stale,’ to which Romesh replied: ‘There are shots fired from you today!’

The radio presenter was then asked why he voted for Karim to leave the quiz show, prompting him to make a jibe about the CBBC presenter, who he had also voted for in the previous round.

‘Well he’d already lost any respect or affection for me after the last round so nothing to lose, you know,’ Reverend Richard said, as Karim laughed.

‘This is a new side of you that we’re seeing today,’ Romesh remarked.

‘I’m retiring next year, I can say what I want,’ the priest added.

After Karim walked away, having been labelled the ‘weakest link’, he admitted that he wanted Reverend Richard to be voted off next.

‘He got a bit lairy, didn’t he! He started throwing shots at me and stuff – he’s come to play,’ he said.

Following his appearance on The Weakest Link, one fan told Reverend Richard that he was ‘robbed’ after not making it to the end.

‘You were great and should have been in the final. Loved your dignified final cutting remarks,’ another tweeted.

Earlier this week, Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo apologised after being called out for ‘harsh’ remarks about Strictly Come Dancing contestant Nina Wadia on The Weakest Link.

When asked why she wanted to vote Nina off, Georgia said: ‘Got two questions wrong, should have banked earlier, yeah, nightmare.’

However, after shock resounded around the studio, the reality star apologised, saying: ‘I’m sorry darling!’

The Weakest Link returns tomorrow at 6.15pm on BBC One.
