Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to leave Arsenal during the January transfer window and is eyeing a move to three divisions in Europe.
Aubameyang has not played for Arsenal since being stripped of the captaincy following a ‘disciplinary breach’ earlier in the month.
The Gabon forward took over as captain in November 2019 after former boss Unai Emery removed Granit Xhaka from the position.
Aubameyang has been one of Arsenal’s most influential players since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 – scoring 92 goals in 163 appearances – but he may have played his last game for the club, with Mikel Arteta seemingly unwilling to buckle and offer him a route back into the team.
Given his bleak situation at the Emirates, Aubameyang wants to leave Arsenal next month and would be keen on a move to France, according to Football London.
Aubameyang’s mother was based in France up until recently and the 32-year-old would welcome the chance to join Ligue 1, although moves to Spain or Italy are also said to be attractive propositions.
Former Arsenal captain Xhaka has expressed his sympathy for Aubameyang and is confident his successor can work his way back into the side, as he managed following his altercation with the club’s fans during a match against Crystal Palace in 2019.
‘I have been in this situation and I know how he is feeling,’ Xhaka told The Athletic. ‘Mine is a different story, with different problems to Auba.
‘Sometimes, maybe, this is not a step back but is a step forward. I think Auba is strong enough and has enough experience to be back and to be better than before.
‘I believe everything happens for a reason. It doesn’t have to be something to bring you down. You have to think positive and believe you can turn it around. I believe he can.
‘I had some very, very dark days and nights. Everyone can run away. That’s so simple, you open the door and walk out. But I was never that type of person.
‘I knew I was the right person for this football club. I want to give them something. I will do everything for this football club to win games and with a lot of passion.’
