Steps singer Claire Richards has been crowned the winner of The Great British Sewing Bee: Celebrity New Year Special.
The performer beat the likes of comedian Rose Matafeo, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Lawrence Chaney and journalist Kirsty Wark to the crown, with judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young seriously impressed by her made-to-measure ice cream sundae costume.
Patrick branded the garment an ‘absolutely fabulous foodie creation,’ adding: ‘You were all fantastic but this one literally was the cherry on top.’
Esme added: ‘Claire’s outfit… can you imagine walking in the room wearing that? Everyone would go “wow!”‘
Claire was thrilled by her victory, telling the cameras: ‘I’m so excited! I’m over the moon so bring on 2022 now! I’m coming for you!’
The judges put the celebrities through their paces in the three tasks in tonight’s episode, first asking them to make a festive waistcoat in the Pattern Challenge.
Next up, was the Transformation Challenge, which saw the foursome convert two adult party dresses into a children’s party outfit.
Finally, the celebrities were tasked with making food-themed fancy dress garments in the Made-to-measure Challenge.
Lawrence opted for a pigs in blankets dress, while Kirsty aimed for a Hogmanay feast, Rose went for a cheese fondue and Claire made an ice cream sundae.
Drag Race’s Lawrence won the first two challenges, but ultimately, Claire was champion.
The Great British Sewing Bee: Celebrity New Year Special is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
