A woman says she is fearful for her and her children’s safety after a man repeatedly banged on her front door until his hands bled.

Craig Bastiman, 40, from Nafferton, Yorkshire, has been issued with a restraining order after also leaving a sinister Post-It note on the woman’s door and going into her garden.

The 38-year-old mum, who lived alone with her two young children, was left traumatised as a result of the incident.

Appearing at Hull Magistrates court, Bastiman admitted to one count of stalking without fear, alarm or distress on Sunday, May 30 and Monday, June 7.

Ms Dixon, prosecuting, said on June 6, the victim made an emergency call to the police stating she had been having ongoing issues with Bastiman, who lived nearby.

She said he was ‘going crazy banging on her door’ and looking through her windows in the report she made to officers.

When the police arrived at the victim’s address, they found traces of Bastiman’s blood on her front door.

Ms Dixon said the victim also showed the police a Post-It note Bastiman had left on her door which read ‘Please call me’.

Bastiman also smashed a plate in the victim’s garden by her children’s play swing.

In a victim statement, read to the court on the woman’s behalf, she said: ‘I am worried about his unpredictable behaviour and I am concerned for myself and my children’s safety.

‘My children were at home and my daughter was very scared of him.’

When the police went to Bastiman’s address, they found him laying on his couch, intoxicated and with bloody hands.

He was arrested on suspicion of harassment and his phone was seized.

When officers checked his phone they found Bastiman had called and texted woman several times, despite her telling him not to call her.

Bastiman’s defence barrister said he has shown a great amount of remorse for what happened and has actively enrolled himself in an alcohol rehabilitation course.

He was fined £580, given a restraining order, and ordered to continue attending rehabilitation therapy for alcohol abuse.
