Brian May has paid tribute to his late mother Ruth on what would have been her 100th birthday.
Taking to Instagram, the 74-year-old Queen legend shared a specially colourised photo of the two enjoying a beach day with his mum in the 1950s.
He wrote a sweet caption, admitting looking at the photo makes him miss her.
‘My Mum would have been 100 years old today. Here we are in a happy moment on Worthing (I think) beach in the late 1950s. I’m trying to work out whether gazing at this makes me happy or sad right now. Thanks for the lovely colorising, @blueprintblues,’ he said.
The rockstar signed off with a emotional touch: ‘Happy Birthday dear Mum. Bri.’
Brian’s mother died suddenly at the age of 76 after an aneurysm.
Ruth’s death came 10 years after the musician lost his father Harold, who died of cancer in 1991.
Speaking to The Guardian back in 2014, the guitarist shared the impact his father’s death had on him, explaining he hopes to make him proud.
‘I hope he’d be proud. Since he died, I’ve become a person who tries to make a difference to the world, and not just through music. I think he’d smile, nod his head and say, ‘Yes, son, you’ve done the right thing,”’ Brian said.
Most recently, Brian opened up about his own health battles, saying he had to ‘fight his way back to good health’ following a heart attack last year.
‘I got a heart attack for no reason I can possibly see. I didn’t really tick any of the boxes for heart attacks but I got it,’ he began.
‘That knocks you back, I have to say. It knocks the stuffing out of you. I had a lot of other complications,’ he added.
The star was later treated for multiple complications, including a stomach haemorrhage, and inserted three stents, as his ‘small’ heart attack brought other underlying issues to the surface.
After building himself back up to his old self, Brian and his Queen bandmates are preparing to perform with Adam Lambert, touring arenas across the country again in 2022.
He also recently released a reissued version of his 1992 solo album Back To The Light, which was recorded and released during Queen’s final years with Freddie Mercury.
