A single mother’s two unvaccinated sons died of the coronavirus less than 12 hours apart from each other in what she called ‘a parent’s worst nightmare’. While mourning her sons’ deaths, Lisa Brandon, who is vaccinated, is urging other Americans to get the jab.
Lisa said that her family contracted Covid-19 in July and that her sons Aaron, 35, and Free, 41, grew more ill. She brought both of them to a hospital, where both of them developed double pneumonia.
Both sons were placed on ventilators and admitted to the intensive care unit. Free died on August 12 and Aaron died hours later the following day.
‘This is horrible. I love my boys,’ Lisa, of Jacksonville, Florida, told WJXT. ‘They never made it home.’
Lisa, who received the Moderna vaccine and experienced only mild Covid-19 symptoms, regrets not pushing her sons to get inoculated.
‘I think they would be alive today if they would have gotten their shot,’ she said. ‘I wish I could have made them do it. And now it’s too late.’
Aaron and Free died five years after the death of Lisa’s other son, David. A GoFundMe account created to help Lisa pay for her sons’ funerals states that she is a single mom and ‘one of the best people’.
‘Unfortunately her son, David, passed away about five years ago,’ Lisa’s friend Brittany Pequignot wrote in the GoFundMe page. ‘Although David passing was a terrible blow to the family, Lisa moved in with the remaining two sons shortly after, and they all took care of each other.’
As of Tuesday evening, the fundraiser had garnered more than $40,000 in donations.
Lisa is sharing her story though it is painful, in hopes that others can avoid the tragedy she faces.
‘The only reason I’m doing this is to put the word out to please get vaccinated,’ she said.
