Simon Cowell wants to give away a whopping £500k to the winner of his new competition show Walk The Line.

Now the plug has been pulled on X Factor, the music mogul is channelling all of his energy into the new TV programme that will see musical acts – including soloists, duos, bands and choirs – perform for the nation and a panel of judges.

The top two performers will then face a difficult decision – to either walk away with a cash prize or continue for the chance to win even more money… or go home with nothing.

If they top the leaderboard, they’ll stay in the running and go up against a new batch of fellow competitors, progressing to the next show.

‘This is a completely new format for Simon and he is very excited,’ an insider said.

‘He wanted to make the prize the biggest on UK telly right now and was adamant it wouldn’t be any less than £500k. He also wants new faces. There will be no Cheryl or Louis Walsh.

‘Those names are all X Factor and Simon wants new, exciting talent sitting beside him.’

The source added to The Mirror: ‘Auditions are happening now, and Simon is a perfectionist so he’s not going to announce when the show will be until he has the perfect judging line-up.’

‘We wanted to develop a show which will give the contestants a life-changing cash prize if they win,’ Simon previously said of the new show.

‘Each show there will be a champion who must make a vital decision: either cash out then and there or stay in the contest to compete again the following night and have a chance to claim the huge prize.’

Simon added that viewers will be left ‘on the edge of their seats’, as the new six-part series will offer ‘real event TV’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Simon and ITV for comment.
