Rio Ferdinand has identified Manchester United’s trio of English attackers as three players who stand to gain most from Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning return to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils swooped in to hijack Manchester City’s move for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, quickly agreeing a fee with Juventus before announcing Ronaldo’s re-signing on Friday afternoon.

Since leaving United back in 2009, Ronaldo has won two La Liga titles, two Serie A titles, four Champions Leagues, the European Championships with Portugal and a host of other competitions.

He brings a wealth of experience and know-how to one of the youngest dressing rooms in the Premier League and Ferdinand believes he can have a massive impact on Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

‘What he brings off the pitch guys, forget everything else what he does, what he can do for Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford alone is worth bringing. And Sancho,’ said the former defender on his FIVE YouTube show.

‘What he can do for just those guys. When he leaves that three could be the front three for Man United who they have invested time in.

‘And when Ronaldo comes he invests time back into them showing them what an A Lister, what a genuine superstar, an absolute obsessive professional lives and breathes like on a daily basis.

‘If those guys aren’t sitting there and their mouths aren’t watering to be there every day with this guy to see and watch it every day I don’t know what’s wrong.

‘But they will be. I know what Jadon’s like, I know what Marcus is like, I don’t know Mason as well but I hear he’s an absolute sponge and wants to be educated.

‘These kids, this is the best opportunity that they could’ve had. Just him coming in the door is enough to break the bank for these three players alone.’

United have only paid an upfront fee of around £12.8million for Ronaldo, though he will become the club’s highest earner by some distance, and the 36-year-old – who was Serie A’s top scorer last term with 29 goals – joins an already well stocked roster of attacking options.
