The moment EastEnders fans have long been waiting for arrives next week, as Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) dusts off those slip-on shoes and waltzes back into Walford!

The legendary soap schemer finds herself back in her old stomping ground in the wake of daughter Scarlett’s (Tabitha Byron) return.

Scarlett rocked up in Walford last week, after Tommy Moon revealed that he’d been messaging her online. Tommy believes Scarlett to be his cousin, leaving Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) concerned, as she fears that he will discover the truth about his parentage.

And next week, she realises that honesty is the best policy, and sits him down, explaining that Alfie (Shane Richie) isn’t actually his dad, but rather Michael Moon is, which makes he and Scarlett brother and sister.

Tommy is stunned, but his attention shifts to Scarlett, believing that this is further proof that they need to help her.

Kat seemingly listens to her boy, as she shows up at the courthouse, informing the social worker that she wants to become Scarlett’s carer, telling her that it’s for the best that Scarlett never see real mum Janine again.

But speaketh her name and she shall appear. Yes, soon afterwards, Janine bursts in, just as Kat is about to tell Scarlett the truth about Tommy!

Janine lays it on thick, delivering a convincing testimony about how she has redeemed herself over the years.

And before long, she’s back in Walford, as she storms into The Vic, bold as brass, and wastes little time in telling all the punters exactly what she thinks of them!

Some things never change.

The showdown in the pub leaves Kat all the more certain that she must do wherever it takes to get Scarlett away from her reckless mum.

But her decision results in some animosity between she and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who is not in the least bit pleased about her getting involved with Scarlett.

Could a break-up be on the cards for the couple? One can hope.

Billy (Perry Fenwick), meanwhile, attempts to stick up for Janine, which leaves Kat frustrated, and soon enough, the old enemies face-off, as Janine pleads Kat for another chance with Scarlett.

Kat’s got a lot to think about ,but there’s more trouble to brewing, as she later receives a phone call from the social worker, who tells her that Scarlett has gone missing!

She vows to find Scarlett, convinced that Janine had something to do with her daughter’s disappearance, but when Billy relays the devastating news to Janine, it’s clear she’s got no idea where Scarlett is!

Janine and Kat team up in an effort to find her. Janine soon has an idea, sending Kat off to the other end of London while she heads to Phil’s.

Scarlett, meanwhile, is upstairs with Tommy! She’s been hiding out in her brother’s company, but things take quite the turn when they hear a commotion downstairs, as Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) confronts Phil over Tina’s (Luisa Bradshaw-White) disappearance.

Shirley lashes out, attacking Phil with a baseball bat! Phil falls to the floor unconscious, leaving Shirley in a panic! Tommy wants to call for help, but Janine has other ideas!

She gets into a scuffle with the kids, but no-one notices that Scarlett’s jumper has landed on the lit hob… and the flames begin to rise!
