The opening weekend of the Premier League weekend produced some fascinating results with Manchester United setting the early pace after their demolition of Leeds.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will fancy their chances of making it two wins from two at Southampton on Sunday, while Chelsea will feel equally confident of victory at an out of sorts Arsenal.
As ever, Betfair ambassador Dimitar Berbatov previews the action for Metro.co.uk…
Liverpool v Burnley
Burnley couldn’t keep hold of their lead last time out and ended their opening match with a defeat. Liverpool on the other hand got the job done and took the three points. There is a massive difference in quality between these two sides in my opinion. The fans will be back on the Kop and the noise is going to be great in my opinion. Three of their attackers got on the scoresheet last time so they will be confident, for a striker to start the first game with a goal is a great boost. Prediction: 3-1.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Liverpool 2/9, Draw 7/1, Burnley 18/1
Aston Villa v Newcastle
F**k sake Newcastle, man. How is that possible? First game winning and then they lose 4-2. I can’t understand it, they have a great stadium, with great fans and still it’s difficult to explain what they are doing. Aston Villa will want to bounce back, I’m sure it was a bit of a shock for them to lose at Watford, who have just been promoted. Prediction: 2-1.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Aston Villa 5/6, Draw 3/1, Newcastle 7/2
Crystal Palace v Brentford
That was such a great start for Brentford, admittedly, Arsenal were s**t, but still it was a great win. Crystal Palace didn’t really offer much against Chelsea and they have to really show up for this match, Vieira is the coach and he won’t want to be under any pressure early on, so I think they will get the win at home. Prediction: 2-1.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Crystal Palace 13/8, Draw 9/4, Brentford 2/1
Leeds v Everton
I do enjoy watching the football that Leeds play, they were disappointing at Old Trafford, but I’m sure they will dust themselves down and want to put things right. Everton did get a good comeback win, which was great for Rafa as that controversy around him being an ex-Liverpool manager is there and as long as he is winning he will be ok, that being said, I think Leeds will do well in this one. Prediction: 1-0.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Leeds 6/4, Draw 13/5, Everton 2/1
Man City v Norwich
There is a huge gap in quality between both sets of players in this one, but that doesn’t always have much of an impact in matches. Now, City need to bounce back, they won’t want a slow start again, especially with the other teams around them strengthening and looking like they will really be pushed this season. Prediction: 2-0.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Man City 2/15, Draw 11/1, Norwich 28/1
Brighton v Watford
It was a great start to life back in the Premier League for Watford. Brighton also did really well to comeback and win. I think it is going to be a tough season for both sides and I think in this one they will both be happy to take a point and continue their unbeaten runs. They won’t want to lose. Prediction: 1-1.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Brighton 4/5, Draw 13/5, Watford 5/1
Southampton v Man United
Based on what Man United did in their opening game, I have big expectations of them. For Southampton, they will have to keep up the tempo this season, otherwise they will be in trouble, I don’t see the Saints getting anything from this though. Prediction: 1-4.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Southampton 5/1, Draw 7/2, Man United 4/6
Wolves v Spurs
The Nuno derby, this is going to be interesting to watch. Wolves will try to spoil his return, for sure. I’m not expecting Harry Kane to play, but they showed against City that they can do it without him. I think Wolves will make it difficult in this one. Prediction: 1-1.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Wolves 12/5, Draw 9/4 Spurs 6/4
Arsenal v Chelsea
What a game. I’m going to come out and say that I think Arsenal are going to have a terrible start to the season. Lukaku could feature for the first time since re-joining Chelsea, and I think he will be eager to show what he can do, and if Arsenal don’t fix their major defensive frailty, that they have had for so many years, they are so easily bullied and Lukaku will run riot. Prediction: 0-3.
Betfair Exchange Odds: Arsenal 4/1, Draw 3/1, Chelsea 4/5
West Ham v Leicester
West Ham looked good against Newcastle and showed some real fight to come back and win strongly. The fans are back and I can see them continuing their momentum, but I expect Leicester to be tough opposition, so I can see this one having plenty of goals. Prediction: 3-2
Betfair Exchange Odds: West Ham 8/5, Draw 13/5, Leicester 15/8
