The recent Casualty episode finale packed one hell of a punch with a double wedding death packed with emotion but the pace will not be slowing down anytime soon for the medical drama.

As we are thrust right into the anniversary episode, boss Loretta Preece has revealed ore huge stories that will carry Casualty forward through its 35th year on screen from abuse terror, a huge secret that will turn Ethan’s (George Rainsford) life upside down and a fierce new character.

She told us: ‘Casualty has always been known for big stunts, emotion and issue based storytelling and there is plenty more to offer audiences as we kick off our 36th series with a special feature length episode.

‘As Casualty turns 35, our much-loved drama remains just as urgent, fresh and relevant as it ever did, having won a BAFTA this year for stories centring on the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic and untold stories around disability.

‘In this special feature length episode, after the devastating death of Fenisha on their wedding day, Ethan is haunted by the conviction that it should have been him.

Three faves are back! (Picture: BBC)

‘Thoughts of his Huntington’s diagnosis take him back in his mind to five years ago when he first heard the news and we are taken back down a Casualty time tunnel where we see some old faces (Cal, Noel and Big Mac) as his subconscious seeks guidance.  We’ll also go on to see how he copes looking after a young baby as a single dad.

‘We see what Jade’s life was like 5 years ago when she was training as a nurse and considering quitting her vocation. A dramatic accident takes place which is pivotal in leading jade to become the inspiring young nurse she is today.’

Discussing new faces who will dominate action in the months to come, Loretta enthused that they will certainly make their mark.

She revealed: ‘There are two new characters introduced in this episode. Stevie, played by Elinor Lawless, bursts onto our screens bloody minded, full of irreverence and with a nefarious agenda.  We’ll later learn how she’s also a lapsed friend of Faith’s who blasts back into Faith’s crisis point with no boundaries and little in the way of self-awareness.

‘New paramedic Teddy, played by Milo Clarke, is full of bounce and enthusiasm for his new job, wearing down Jan, who happens to be his Aunt. Teddy seems to have a kind word for everyone except for Charlie, of all people! Stay tuned for that.’

Prepared to spill even more tea, she added: ‘A recent genre-busting episode of Casualty shone a light on Tina and Jacob’s relationship and the coercive control she exerts over him. This is a really important subject matter for the series to be highlighting and we’ll be delving further into this with some heart-breaking scenes as the series progresses.

‘Also coming up elsewhere, we put the focus back on Jan and Ffion’s relationship which is still troubled since Jan lied to Ffion and the police to save her son Ross.  Their marriage is certainly pushed to its limits.

‘All in all, Casualty audiences are in for some fantastic drama in the months ahead, which they do absolutely not want to miss.

‘Here’s to the next 35 years!’

Cheers, Casualty!
