Bill Bailey has praised a tribute to Sean Lock from a live music and comedy venue after the star’s death aged 58.
The comedian died at home following a battle with cancer and surrounded by his family, his agent announced this week.
Venue Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London, paid tribute by changing the signing on the front of the building – which usually bears the name of the gigs taking place – to read ‘RIP Sean Lock’.
It was a space where Lock had performed numerous times throughout his career including in BBC series Live At The Apollo, and in 2013 as part of his Purple Van Man tour.
Bill shared the gesture on his Instagram page adding the message: ‘Thanks @eventimapollo, nicely done.’
Channel 4 presenter George Clarke reported Bill’s image and added: ‘This is both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time…a photo posted by one of the most wonderful men you could ever meet and a very good friend of Sean Lock @billbaileyofficial #ripseanlock’.
Lock’s agent Off the Kerb Productions said on Wednesday: ‘It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock.
‘He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family.
‘Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.
‘Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children.
‘Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him. We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time.’
Fellow comedians including Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack and Jon Richardson paid tribute on social media, sharing their memories of working with the 8 Out Of 10 Cats star.
