A Place in the Sun is set to join Channel 4’s Black to Front project as they strive to improve Black representation on the network and drive long-term change in the industry.
Black to Front will see Channel 4 broadcast programming dedicated to amplifying Black talent both on and off-screen.
A special episode will air on September 10, which will see show host Jean Johansson head to the town of Marbella in Spain with house hunters Clement and Tracey-Anne from Croydon in South London.
The couple, who share three children, often visit Clement’s brother in Jerez, Andalusia, where he owns a property and has lived for almost 15 years.
Clement and Tracey-Anne have been inspired to buy a property in the country and Jean is tasked with finding them their dream home in the glitzy Marbella on a budget of £250,000.
Jean said: ‘I am delighted to be part of the Black to Front project, championing black talent on and off screen.
‘This is an exciting day in broadcasting and I’m extremely excited to be hosting this very special episode of A Place in the Sun.’
Organisers of the Black to Front project spent a year planning the initiative and they are working with numerous production partners in an on-going commitment to improve black representation off-screen.
The channel will air programming fronted by Black talent and featuring Black contributors, with the day being about representing Black British communities, and championing black communities, voices and stories.
Channel 4 bosses have worked with the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity in a bid to address these specific challenges within the industry.
Some of the broadcaster’s most iconic shows will air as part of the project, including The Big Breakfast, Gogglebox, Countdown, Hollyoaks, Love it or List it, Channel 4 News and The Great House Giveaway.
