A seagull has made a remarkable recovery after becoming wedged behind a car grille in Kent.
The herring gull, which was spotted in a car park in Ashford, Kent, is thought to have been hit by a Mazda 6 and then trapped by the force of the impact.
It has now been released back into the wild after being rescued last month.
The RSPCA’s Tina Nash, who was called in to free the unnamed animal, said the driver is unlikely to have known it was there and that the bird’s recovery made her love her job.
She explained: ‘The bird was completely wedged up behind the grille and there’s no way he’d have been able to get out himself.’
After being freed on June 29, the gull was then taken to the Mallydams Wood Wildlife Centre in East Sussex, and found to have no substantial injuries.
And within a few weeks, it was released near Hastings, at Pett Level beach.
Ms Nash said: ‘After a road traffic collision and being stuck in the car grille like that I was convinced the poor bird would have major life-threatening injuries so to see him, just a few weeks [later], given a clean bill of health and released back to the wild with lots of other birds gives me a huge sense of pride.
‘It’s rewarding moments like these that make me love my job.’
It comes after another unlikely seagull collision, which saw a bird fly into a teenager on a fairground ride.
