‘Elder statesman’ Lorde reveals why she stays off social media

Social media-shy Lorde would rather be ‘an elder statesman at 24’ than a girl who gets ‘a bunch of likes’.

The Kiwi pop star, back after four years with new track Stoned At The Nail Salon, explained why her Instagram account has only three pictures.

‘I realised I was trying to come up with a funny Instagram caption and do a photo of me that looked cool, that I hoped would get a certain amount of likes,’ said the Royals singer. ‘It sounds obvious but that’s cooked.

‘I’m not a girl that gets a bunch of likes. I am who I am and I’ve got to lean into that.’

Lorde said when she released her last album she was ‘still like the kids’. She added: ‘Then the culture started to change and I didn’t know that I wanted to change with it.

‘I didn’t know if I wanted to be a TikTok girl, an Instagram Stories girl, and it was a real crossroads.’

She told Apple Music: ‘I had to be like, “Do you want to keep being the kids? Or do you want to transition through that and be something of an elder statesman at 24?” Which I really feel like I am now, which I love, but it took a minute.’

Lorde’s third album, Solar Power, is out next month, and the title track is inspired by Primal Scream’s Loaded. The indie band said they love her comeback.

BTS are suited and booted as they prepare to bring K-pop mania to British TV.

The super seven — RM, Jungkook, Jimin, V, Suga, Jin and J-Hop — went on to top the US charts with their hit Dynamite and reached No.1 in the UK last year with their album Map Of The Soul.

The 30-minute programme, presented by Radio 1’s Adele Roberts, will also feature their Live Lounge debut, with performances of Dynamite, Permission To Dance and a special cover of Puff Daddy and Faith Evans’s I’ll Be Missing You.

‘BTS have broken records, barriers and boundaries,’ said Adele, 42. ‘That dream is now going to be a reality. I’m beyond excited for us to finally be hosting the biggest boy band in the world!’

She will also relive her trip to Seoul in 2018, where she met BTS fans, known as the Army.

The show hits BBC One on Wednesday.

Jason’s support for abused England stars

Jason Sudeikis doesn’t want applause for wearing a top bearing the names of racially abused England footballers Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho.

The American actor donned a T-shirt that said ‘Jadon & Marcus & Bukayo’ to the premiere of his Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso in the wake of the players being targeted by online trolls.

Also this week, Jason, whose ex Olivia Wilde is dating Harry Styles, was spotted out in New York with Irina Shayk, said to be dating Kanye West.
