Dana White says Conor McGregor will get a rematch against Dustin Poirier following his horrific injury at UFC 264.
Poirier secured the win in their trilogy fight via a doctor’s stoppage after McGregor suffered a broken leg in the final seconds of the opening round.
McGregor stumbled backwards after a flurry of standing exchanges with the UFC president later confirming the injury was to the Dubliner’s lower tibia.
Poirier’s win sets him up for a title shot against lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
And while McGregor could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, White says there will be a fourth instalment of his rivalry with the American once he has healed up.
‘It sucks, it’s brutal and it’s not the way you want to see fights end,’ White said.
‘Dustin Poirier will fight for the title and when Conor is healed and ready to go, we’ll do the rematch.’
Stricken on the mat following the shock conclusion to the bout, McGregor insisted his series with Poirier is not over.
‘I was boxing the bleeding head off him and kicking the bleeding leg off him – the usual s***e to close this distance,” McGregor said.
‘This is not over. If I have to take this outside with him, I’ll go outside. I don’t give a b******s.’
