A man allegedly murdered his 80-year-old mother and left her internal organs on a welcome mat inside her home. Alfredo Paratore, 49, was arrested after authorities found Katherine Paratore dead in her house on Friday night.

The gruesome scene, as officials described it, unfolded in Lynn, Massachusetts. Katherine’s body was found around 8pm. She had multiple injuries including lacerations near her right collarbone and on her right hand. Her arms, neck and head were covered in bruises and a set of dentures were on the ground near her shoulder. Katherine was pronounced dead at the scene. Her corpse likely lay inside her home for a few days, sources told CBS Boston.

Alfredo called police and claimed he went home and found his mother on the floor, according to court documents obtained by the TV station. However, officials said he sounded nervous and did not remember the last time he talked with or saw his mother.

Furthermore, Alfredo had dried blood on his left hand and scratches on his ear and cheek, according to investigators.

Katherine was found with no shirt on and propped against a wall inside the doorway. Internal organs appeared to have been placed on a welcome mat inside the home.

Alfredo allegedly told police that he took suboxone, an opioid treatment medication, about 15 minutes prior. Cops reportedly gave him Narcan when it appeared that he overdosed and he was transported to Salem Hospital.

Alfredo was not present on Monday for his arraignment in Lynn District Court. He faces murder charges, according to the Essex District Attorney’s Office. His attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

The son will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital, which is about an hour south of Boston. Alfredo is being held without bail. His next court date is set for June 30.

Alfredo’s motive was not immediately clear.
