Resident Evil Village DLC confirmed in Capcom E3 2021 showcase

Capcom’s E3 conference was a bit short on new announcements but it did reveal work has begun on Resident Evil Village DLC.

Although Microsoft did pretty well with their Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, so far there’s no doubting E3 2021 has been a disappointment, with the pandemic clearly having a major effect on publishers’ ability to provide the usual plethora of surprises.

The only real announcement of note from Capcom on Monday night was that work has already begun on DLC for Resident Evil Village, but they didn’t say what it was and they certainly didn’t show anything of it.

We’d be willing to bet it involves Lady Dimitrescu, since Capcom had no idea she’d become so popular while they were making the game, but we’ll just have to wait and see to know for sure.

Capcom also announced that multiplayer component RE:Verse will be released next month, although given the lukewarm response to what’s been seen of it so far that’s not necessarily much to get excited about.

The rest of the 30-minute showcase was concerned with games that have already been announced or, in the case of Monster Hunter Rise, are already out.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is due very soon, on July 9, but there’ll be a free demo on June 25 (next Friday) and there are already plans to add the Palamute mount from Monster Hunter Rise.

At the same time, Monster Hunter Rise will be adding references to Rise 2 this month and next, according to the game’s new roadmap, with Ver 3.1 due on June 24.

Finally, there was an extended look at The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which is out on July 27 and includes two games that are already out in Japan but have never been released here till now.

Both titles involve Phoenix Wright’s ancestor in Victorian London, as he aids Herlock Sholmes (there was a rights issue) in solving crimes and prosecuting the accused in court.

It looks great, as Ace Attorney games usually do, but you could see the chat rooms were restless at the lack of new announcements, especially when Capcom decided to round things out with a plug for its esports Pro Tour season.

Capcom obviously have more games in development – last year’s hack suggested everything from a new Onimusha to multiple new Resident Evil games – but unfortunately E3 2021 was not the venue they chose to unveil them.

The only major showcases left now are Nintendo at 5pm BST on Tuesday and Bandai Namco later that night. The latter has probably said all they’re likely to about Elden Ring but there is good reason to hope that Nintendo will have some welcome surprises in its event.
