The Queen has been given a new corgi puppy to mark her official birthday, according to reports.

Prince Andrew and daughters Beatrice and Eugenie gave her the dog on Thursday – on what would have been her late husband Prince Philip’s 100th birthday.

The new addition to the family comes after the monarch’s last puppy died aged just five months old.

Andrew gave corgi Fergus to his mother to keep her company while the Duke of Edinburgh was in hospital in February.

Philip, who was married to the Queen for 73 years, passed away peacefully at Winsdor Castle aged 99 on April 9.

Fergus, as well as another corgi named Muick, had been a welcome ‘distraction’ for Her Majesty as she mourned her partner.

But further tragedy hit when the dog died from a heart defect in May, leaving her ‘devastated’.

A source told The Sun last month: ‘The puppies were brought in to cheer her up during a very difficult period. Everyone concerned is upset as this comes so soon after she lost her husband.’

They added that Fergus was a ‘special little puppy who saw Her Majesty through a difficult time of loss and grief’.

It remains unknown what the new corgi puppy is called.

Speaking about the new addition last night, a Windsor Castle insider said: ‘The Queen has had a rough time and she is absolutely delighted to have a new corgi.

‘She was distraught when Fergus died suddenly, but this new dog will be perfect company for Muick going forward.’

The Queen was given her first corgi, named Susan, on her 18th birthday.

Since then, she has owned more than 30 – many of them direct descendants of Susan.

It comes after Her Majesty joked around with world leaders while hosting an evening banquet at the G7 summit on Friday.
